This is my entry for the Anthro "Fortitude" contest that celebrates DA's 7th birthday. [link]

A father lion breathes life into his three-day dead newborn cub. Based upon medieval legend. To me, when a father takes responsibility, it takes a tremendous amount of strength and courage. To me, a lion embodies fortitude to the greatest extent.

Sketched on paper and then colored in Photoshop 7. Reference was used for the antelope, zebra, and wildebeest.
Daily Deviation, 2007-08-28

Daily Deviation'Lion Breathes Life' by ~FeralityIllustration, won the second prize of deviantART's 7th birthday "7 sins, 7 virtues: Fortitude" Contest. A beautiful concept, well executed. The swirling blue element in this piece is really eye-catching and adds to the overall solemn mood of this image. (Featured by `skifi)

The Past is history, the Future is a mystery, but today is a gift; That's why it's called the Present.
I have to say I think you've got a winner here. Really great interpretation of fortitude.

Nice work! I love the anatomy, and good work with the detailing. Looks like it took a while! Good luck with the contest. ;)
Thank you! I only had about 3 days to color this, so believe it or not, it was quite rushed. ^^;;
